Scenes from the Shop

It’s a lovely morning, cool and fresh, and as I sit here writing, I’m cozying up in my first wool sweater of the season.  I do so love unzipping its summer storage bag, taking out the sweater that’s been in hibernation since I washed it and folded it up last spring, giving it a good fluff and pulling it on.  It’s like meeting an old friend.

Hmmm.  I guess if I can rhapsodize about wool sweaters, I’m in the right business, aren’t I?

Lots going on around the shop this time of year.  Classes are filling up nicely, we’re re-arranging shelves to make room for new goodies, unpacking yarn, and planning for new projects.  I’m working hard to finish one up so that I can get going on the next (which I haven’t decided on yet – that’s part of the fun and anticipation!)  And thinking of finishing things up, I want to mention couple of things in this post.

First, if you were part of the Hitofude Knitalong, check out this photo that Karen took when she re-blocked hers (after it hung here for several months, it needed it!)  It shows how to lay out your own creation when it’s finished and ready to block:

The goal is to open up the lace without stretching it too much, so use this photo as your guide and take your time!

And here is a photo of some of Janet’s Building Blocks afghan class seaming their blocks to finish up their afghans.  Seaming this project is easy because of the seed stitch edging, and there is excellent on-line help as well.  I love the different colors and hope we’ll see some of them finished.  Thanks, Susan Davis, Lynn Rockwell, and Janet Koller for allowing me to take the photo:

We’ve added a new class to the schedule!  Lynne will be teaching hairpin lace – remember that?? – and the class project is this pretty scarf.  It’s long, soft and supple in a combination of Manos Silk Blend and Fibre Company’s Acadia.  You can create your own color/fiber combo.  The class is 2 sessions, October 4 and 18, starting at 1 p.m.

Next time we’ll explore what arrived in these big ol’ cartons:
