Happy official first day of fall! The weather is cooperating with the theme: it’s cool and rainy enough to tempt us to dig out those favorite sweaters packed away for months. Fuzzy feels good today.
Deb finished her Staffin Vest (class starting soon, spaces available!) which would be perfect for a day like today, and it is gorgeous! She knit it in Juniper Moon’s Rambouillet:

And this lovely sweater would feel good any day. Light as a feather, Karen’s Cara feels airy and cozy all at the same time. It’s the perfect sweater, one that won’t weigh you down or make you feel boxed in by the end of the winter. And it’s beautiful, just look at this:
It’s made in Lamana Como, a soft 100% superfine merino spun in Italy. It’s wonderful for colorwork as you can see, but it’s also wonderful for texture. I swatched it for a little lacy, twisted-stitch pullover before we settled on this design – excellent stitch definition. Karen’s class, which starts this week, has an opening so if you want to come in, try on, play with colors, jump in! Look at this sleeve detail:
I jumped on this new yarn right away:
It’s Rowan’s Softest Alpaca, a bend of alpaca, a bit of wool, and recycled nylon, which it’s nice they’re looking for recycled fibers, right? These aren’t the only colors we have, but they’re the ones that killed me. I wanted to find a project that would use all of them, and really just wanted a small project, but I ended up making a simple striped raglan with just three of them, and I love the way it’s turning out:
(Sorry about the lighting, it’s tough to get good color in my house on a day like this.) I’m following the pattern called Jules by Susanne Muller, using her numbers but a different stripe pattern so I could use one extra color. It’s a nice pattern and I’ll be wanting to make her summery cropped version with 3/4 sleeves at some point.
So, if you come to the shop these days, you’ll find cartons with bags of yarn falling out of them, waiting for a home. Of course I bought a lot of yarn, that’s why I own a yarn store! I love yarn and knitting! I’m slowly making my way through the shelves, cleaning, compressing, relegating some to the sale closet and the orphans to the bargain bin – over-flowing, BTW. And after all that, there’s still not enough room, so the stock/class room is also getting crazy! Meanwhile, all I want to do is sit and knit with some new yarn and find great projects for it.

This is Firefly, a new yarn from Juniper Moon Farm, extra fine merino, cotton, nylon and metallic, a generous 415 yards in a ball. Going to find a fab one-skein project; I’ll keep you posted.
