Gradience Radiance

The other day when I had some quiet time in the shop, I do one of my favorite things.  I played with yarn and color.  Last week I showed you the colors of Road to China Light that we had just received:DSCN1644

I messed around a bit, arranging them in groups that pleased me.  First this:

Then this:

Does one set speak to you immediately, make you itch to start knitting?

I was having so much fun, I decided to do some playing with Acadia, in which our color selection is also excellent.  I started with these three beautiful neutrals:

then added color.

Warm greens:

Cool blues:

Earthy shades of brown and gold:

Bright purples:

Soft red-pinks:

And cool greens:

Aren’t they all so beautiful?  Don’t they show why neutrals are so valuable in our wardrobes?

So, we’ve had fun with color, now what to knit with these combinations?  A quick run through Ravelry using “gradient” as the search word, yardage of 750 or less, and narrowing it down to free patterns came up with two full pages of scarves, cowls, mitts, and shawls. If you don’t mind paying for a pattern, there are 7 pages to look at.  A few that are interesting: Deep End by Heidi Kirrmaier, Dotted Rays by Stephen West (look at the projects), Transition Gloves by Kerin Dimeler, Mordor by Ann Lundblad, and Now in a Minute by Brenda Dayne.

So much to knit!
