What Was in Those Boxes?

We received two major shipments in the last week, and I want to show you a few of the pretty yarns we received, with some ideas for each one.

For sock lovers and makers of Wingspans and other fun self-striping projects, we received lots of Zauberball and Zauberball Crazy:

A  lovely array of Crock O Dye, wool-nylon-silk, for socks and shawls – lovely for your own Fabergé, maybe?

Practical, sturdy Jawoll in fun stripes, for those socks you’re planning for gifts.  Better get started! (also super-cute for baby sweaters and hats!)

And here’s a neat idea: Tango has two matching skeins of hand-dyed high-twist superwash merino, already separated for your two-at-a-time socks.  Fun for sock-knitters and a good gift to give someone who loves to knit socks.

Debbie Bliss’s new yarn, Fine Donegal, is a knitter’s dream.  It’s a beautiful fingering-weight Irish tweed (actually made in Ireland).   The colors are lovely, and the accent colors in the tweed flecks are perfectly chosen to add depth and interest.

There is a tiny bit of cashmere that you really don’t notice until you block the project and put it on, and it’s much softer and smoother against the skin than most Irish tweeds would be.  These are the colors I’ve received so far, and about this many more are still to come:

Obviously I fell in love with it, and so… I made a dress out of it.  Yes, a dress.  My project started out to be Merle from Brooklyn Tweed’s Wool People 7 collection, a 3/4 sleeve henley-neck, collared sweater with a little lace detail on the yoke… (Fine Donegal is perfectly suited to substitute for Brooklyn Tweed’s Loft, by the way.)

and it turned into this:

Don’t ask me how, I just kept knitting, and then things happened.  At least I kept the lace at the yoke, but I think every other thing changed!  (I’ve also started a diet.  Good grief, eating season hasn’t even begun and my waist is already non-existent.)  So anyway, this dress took only 4-1/2 balls of Fine Donegal – 415 yards to a ball!

And here is bee-you-tiful Moonshine – alpaca, wool, silk – in wonderful colors, for any sweater or other project you want to make in worsted weight.  More colors are still to come – I can’t seem to get any complete shipments from some distributors this year – it’s a little frustrating when I can’t even get the model color.

I made Seacoast, a simple, top-down yoke sweater that I just love:

But this is a lovely yarn for almost any sweater, scarf, hat, or cowl that you can dream up. I can see it in a luxurious Guernsey Wrap – or any of the lovely wraps from Brooklyn Tweed’s Fall 2014 collection.  (No, I don’t get a commission from Brooklyn Tweed, I just think they do the most wonderful designs these days.)

Okay, I’m done for now!  Lots and lots still to show you but it will keep!
