That Old Saying

Have you heard the adage “Work expands to fill the time available”?  Well, I’m beginning to find out the inverse (converse? obverse? perverse?) is true: “Laziness expands to fill the time available.”  I love having Sundays off, but if anyone asked me how I’m using my extra time, I’d be hard-pressed to justify it.  I don’t seem to get more knitting done, let alone housework, paperwork, or anything else useful.  But perhaps I’m missing the point of time off?

Anyway, thank goodness others are still knitting away and being productive!

Pat Burkhart made this beautiful baby blanket from Encore Colorspun in a pattern that has become one of her favorites:

Virginia Griffith finished her Scalene scarf from Donna’s class, in pretty colors of Panda Silk:

and also her Gretel tank top, which she happened to wear on the same (99 degree) day that I wore mine (thanks, Fran, for taking the photo):

Christiana Brimosingh finished her cabled fingerless mitts from Janet’s class and is off and running on another pair:

Mary Ann Posey finished another of her beautiful lace shawls, this one festooned with pearls in place of nupps, to great advantage I think:

Sheila Yarus made this pretty sweater in two weights of hand-dyed yarns from her stash.  It took several years to come up with the right look for the yarns used together, but it was worth the wait, right?

Jettie Hunt got fascinated by the Lokken Scarf just as I was.  She’s modeling her first one, in lovely classic neutral tones of Silk Garden Sock, and brought in a brighter (as yet unblocked)  version done in Kureyon Sock from her stash:

Marci Frey finished her first sock from Janet’s sock class (a perfect fit!), as well as a hat for her son which I forgot to photograph:

I’m working on several things that are taking lots of time, although I don’t think they should be!  I kinda misjudged this and I’m sick of them both, but I’ll love them when they’re done, of course!  Every now and then, though, I have to do a little something else.  This was a cute little cowl done in a leaf pattern that I thought would look nice in this thick and thin Haciendo from Plymouth:

It’s a free pattern on Ravelry called Vite Cowl, which means grapevine according to the designer, but it also means fast in French, and it’s very quick to make.

I also did this free hat pattern, called Wurm (self-explanatory, I should think) in Unisono, a lovely self-striping sportweight extra fine merino.

And I swatched with Ella Rae’s Superwash, a nice wool that comes in pretty heathers that I’m thinking about stocking.  The swatch on the left wasn’t washed or blocked – good stitch definition but a little stiff.  The washed swatch on the right, done with a load of towels in a regular cold water cycle, is softer and a little fuzzy, but not at all felted or pilled.  I like it!  Snowshoe Aran class, anyone?

Hope you’re enjoying this lovely summer as much as I am – but don’t be lazy – I’ve got that covered!

See you soon…
