How was everyone’s 4th? Mine was decidedly unpatriotic: I didn’t see any parades, go to any fireworks, or eat anything barbecued. I pretty much indulged myself – it was too hot to do anything useful, so I didn’t! Ruby and I snuck in a couple of very short walks and otherwise thanked our lucky stars for air conditioning. Hope you survived as well.
I did a bit of knitting, of course, but needed a small project for the heat wave. These very cute Neon Moon mitts have been on my list for a long time, and a couple balls of Rozena were waiting to be made into something, et voila!

The center bobbles are done with a crochet hook, and they look pretty consistent (sometimes my bobbles are a bit wonky). I don’t know if they look good because of the technique or because Rozena is a chainette yarn with lots of springiness. You can use a cable needle for the side cables but I used right and left twists. Don’t know which way is better, it probably depends on your personal preference. Anyway, the mitts are sweet, and I may do a pair in a normal old wool to see how they turn out.
Look what we got, a nice surprise in the middle of summer (the order was due in April) – a lovely bunch of Smooshy Cashmere from Dream in Color:

I ordered a few coordinating colorways for, say, two-color shawls, or socks with contrasting heels and toes, or colorwork sweaters, or any number of fun things. (I ordered the gray because it’s irresistible to me.) I couldn’t get the right color purple for the skein that looks dark blue – it’s quite a bit brighter and definitely purple!
So, Deb Hawk had the nice idea of doing a knit-along in memory of Pat Darosh. It’s a lovely thought, and one that Pat would have liked, I think. So many of us knew her through her love of taking knitting classes here, and she took classes at all levels. So here’s what I came up with:
We’ll meet every Sunday afternoon in August, starting August 2 through the 30th. Instead of just one project for everyone, I chose a couple. One will do for anyone who wants something easy-peasy: One Skein Triangle Scarf is a free download on Ravelry and super simple:

The second project is a bit more challenging and requires two skeins: The Happier Side of Goodbye starts out pretty simple and segues into a lovely lace finish:

There is no charge for the knit-along, but when you buy yarn to join us, 25% of the profits from the sale will go to support an animal rescue charity (TBD in consultation with her sons). Pat would like that! Be sure we know the yarn is for the knit-along. I hope you’ll be able to come.
Ruby got an infected toe from something or other. Here she is, ears a-flyin’, in a baby sock to keep her from licking it until we could get to the vet. (N.B. It didn’t work, but the antibiotics did.)
