First, a reminder that we’ll be closed this weekend. Art on the Avenue is Saturday – if you haven’t been to it, you should go, it’s really fun – but we don’t do much business and I haven’t been able to enjoy it for 10 years, so this year I’m closing. So, we’ll be open Wednesday – Friday this week, that’s it!
Now to the fun stuff. First, we received Dream in Color’s newest yarn, Calm, this week. It’s a worsted-weight singles, 240 yd. of 100% American wool (not superwash), dyed in their glorious colorways. I only bought 5 colors because I hadn’t met the yarn in person – I love it and can’t wait to knit with it. I have plans for it but am waiting for patterns to arrive. Here it is:
Pretty fabu, huh? I think almost everyone who saw it bought some.
I finished Nanook, in Manos Rittenhouse, a lovely and sadly discontinued merino that is going on sale this week. It’s the perfect yarn for this pretty cardigan, which looks much more complex than it is.
Isn’t it pretty? And the back is nice, too, with radial increases adding a subtle design:
You can now buy this pattern (and many more) from us through Ravelry – we can send it to your Ravelry library or to your email as a .pdf, and we’ll also print a copy for you in-store. The cost to you is the same either way.
Here is another great sweater that I just finished. How’s that for modesty – I just mean a great design, easy, quick, effective! I showed you the interesting sleeve construction last week, and here it is finished. This is Yeti:
I love how it turned out in Riva, although this photo makes it look more fuchsia than red. It will look great over a long-sleeved tee or turtleneck come fall.
And one more thing I finished this week. This is the Lokken Scarf from the new Knitscene Accessories magazine, looking totally different in a wild and crazy colorway of Silk Garden Sock. This is the way it looks in the magazine:
and here is my version:
Completely different, depending on how your sock yarn stripes. Fun to do, though, with everything picked up and joined as you go, so no finishing except weaving in ends. Mine blocked out to about 46 x 20, much bigger than theirs, but took 1-1/2 balls of Silk Garden sock.
Okay! On to some beautiful customer projects!
First, you saw David’s beautiful Fair-Isle sweater being blocked a couple weeks ago, now here it is modeled in person. It is absolutely gorgeous, let me just tell you, in a cream and rich dark brown combination, and utterly beautiful knitting!
And Liz Heckman finished this great-looking cardy in Classic Silk – a beautiful color for her, isn’t it? (I love the expression on her face – I was patiently waiting for her to quit talking for just one second so I could snap the picture. This is Liz clamming up.)
Kay DiCecco brought in this lovely baby blanket that she finished, and bought yarn to start another. Isn’t it pretty?
And Mary Ann Posey brought in another of her absolutely gorgeous lace shawls to show us, before she gifted it:
Here is a detail of the motif at the bottom tip:
The color variation is subtle, but accents the petals. Just wonderful!
That’s it for this week – see you soon…
Trish
