Okay, I give up. At any moment, I’m going to start grousing about the weather just like the rest of the world. Even I, the biggest stay-at-home ever, am getting a touch of cabin fever. And I’m just a little worried that if Jack and Purl get any more bored, they’ll start looking at me like I’m a great big chew toy!
I’m not bored because I’m a KNITTER. I can knit and listen to audiobooks for days at a time. Guilt over housecleaning and other chores, such as getting tax stuff together, may build up a little and when it becomes unbearable, I must put down my knitting and get off the couch for a while, but I’m pretty guilt-resistant. I still have the snow-day mentality – it’s a free day to do what I like, and when I have a few new yarns to try out, that’s what I like to do. It’s so much fun to figure out just what that particular yarn would like to become.
I’m messing around with some Ito yarns right now. They are skinny little coned yarns meant to be doubled or combined with other things (at least for knitting, weavers would probably use them single) and made out of very interesting materials. I bought a few colors of WASHI, a paper and rayon yarn
that I’m combining with Niji, an incredibly thin strand of wool,
to make – something! Together they make a very light tweed (shown in various gauges), surprisingly soft on the smooth side and crisp on the rough side:
I think a little summer cardigan would be nice and I need one.
This, maybe, although perhaps not skin-tight
or this.
I remember last year thinking the same thing about a little summer cardy and never getting it started. This year, I shall have my cardigan finished by the time the weather turns hot and humid, and that’s a promise.
I finished this cute little number last week. It’s made from Shibui Linen, a 100% linen chainette, from a pattern called “Adrift” by Carol Feller. I modified it somewhat to make the fronts smaller (I don’t think terribly short people like me look great in sweaters that drape to their knees). Simple and wearable during the hottest days and so many ways to style it:
A couple new things popped in this week. First is Knitbot Linen by Hannah Fettig, full of her signature simple designs, all with a little twist to make them up-to-date and fun to knit.
We also received the newest Debbie Bliss magazine, with her biggest collection of kids’ designs yet. They are really cute – even I’m tempted and I have no reason to knit something for kids!
Thanks to everyone who has brought yarn and needles to donate to Caron Foundation’s program for young adults. Such a very good use for those things we do not want or need. We’ll be collecting continually for several months, so please don’t neglect to gather your unwanted supplies together and bring them in.
I’ll leave you with our little Purl, nose tucked in and fast asleep in her bed at the shop, one little ear draped over the edge. She can’t help it, she’s cute whether she wants to be or not:
Gives me an excellent idea of how to spend this afternoon!
See you soon…
