I’m in a very pleasant place for a knitter to be. I have just finished the murder scene brother-in-law socks
(sorry for the truly terrible picture, but frankly, the more obscure the better with these socks). I hope he’ll like them. Manos’ Alegria is an absolutely wonderful yarn and the socks feel lovely. I just really don’t like the streaky pooling that occurred. They’re only a little better in person!
The other project I’ve been working on is a design of my own that may or may not turn out to be something someone would actually like to wear. It’s an ongoing process that involves a lot of knitting and a lot of ripping out and there is no big hurry to finish it. It involves some light fingering yarn, a striped yoke, and the rest I don’t really know yet. Here’s one sleeve, sort of.
If it actually turns into a garment, I’ll ask for test knitters!
So anyway, my decks are clear for the moment and I need something to knit. I’ve been dying to try Mimi, the 100% mink yarn. (People ask, so let me tell you that this yarn comes from mink who have been bred and raised so that people can handle them. The yarn is spun from down that is brushed from their coats, so they aren’t killed.) I have three ideas and don’t know which way to go – will you vote in the comments?
Here are my ideas:
First, Tenaya fingerless are my favorite mitt pattern. They’re done on small needles and have little cables and ribs running up the outside of the thumb and hand which makes them fit really well. The design is such that you can wear them on either hand. They don’t take much yarn, and would be easy to make into actual mittens if you like. I have a pair in a plain sock yarn, but they would be lovely and special in Mimi.
I’m in the mood to make a hat, and this doubled reversible one is so cute and versatile and would be warm and beautiful in two colors of Mimi. That would be fun and I wouldn’t have to choose just one color!
And finally, this wonderful wrappy scarf/shawl, just added to to Ravelry, got my attention right away. Textured stitches, a reversible cable and i-cord edging would make for interesting knitting. Think I would do the top and bottom twisted rib on a smaller needle so the edges wouldn’t curve. Maybe.
