This is a tough time of year for yarn store owners. If you are a good little store owner, you don’t have much yarn coming in right now because this isn’t a terrifically busy time of year. But this is also the time of year that sales reps are prowling around showing you all kinds of gorgeous things that you want right now! Your head is full of ideas of what to do with the new yarn, but you can’t really afford to bring it in now and even if you could, the distributors don’t have it to ship yet. It’s frustrating and exciting and disappointing and inspirational all at the same time.
I’ve ordered such beautiful things that I can’t wait to get. We’re going to have some Swan’s Island fingering – it’s lovely stuff, 100% organic merino dyed with natural dyes – all the colors are heavenly! Lots of Maxima from Manos in an array of fabulous colors plus their new sock yarn, and I finally am going to have some Shibui. I’ve looked at the line for years and now we’re going to have some Cima and Silk Cloud and I have such a great idea for it! I’ll be getting some of the new yarns in small quantities in July to try or to make models. Anyone interested in trying out new yarns? Let me know and we’ll set something up for a Sunday afternoon or a weekday evening.
Meanwhile, MadelineTosh has notified me that they have condescended to dye my trivial little order (from November!) and I should actually have a nice amount of Merino DK in a week or so. Start searching Ravelry for your favorite patterns!
REMINDERS: $10 minimum for credit cards starts June 1. And we’ll be closed from June 15 through the 25th for vacation! Come to Art on the Avenue on June 15th and see Amanda Barrell’s baskets (which she is going to teach this summer at the store, see our class page) and all the other amazing arts and crafts and food galore.
Purl is doing great, she got her stitches out this morning and she gained 1.2 pounds since last Monday! She’s a big honking 8.2 pounds now!
We have just a few projects this week to show you. Barbara Grater is a terrific knitter who made this gorgeous afghan for her grandson in his favorite colors, with an array of our yarns that she put together herself:
Lory Fleischer made this fun little cotton sweater for her grandchild:
And Fran Krieger made this pretty blanket for her soon-to-be granddaughter:
Busy, busy grandparents and lucky, lucky babies (or older grandchildren) to have wonderful hand-knits to be wrapped up in!
See you soon…
Trish
