Happy Summer! I admit that I’m going to miss this past spring – it was just the way I like it, lots of changes in the weather. A couple hot days, a few cooler days, some dry, some wet – perfect! I guess I’m ready for the heat now. I adopt the southerner’s attitude toward really hot days – slow down, find the shade, drink something cool, relax.
I hope you’re getting to relax too, maybe with some small easy projects that can be picked up and put down easily, that aren’t too heavy for a lap when it’s hot, and that travel well. Small shawls make great projects and are nice to gift or donate to a silent auction or fund-raiser. These patterns aren’t new, but they’re all great, some are free, and most are designed so that you can keep going until all your yarn is used up. There are samples to see in the shop of all of these little shawls.

Fingerless mitts are another small project that can travel well. One skein, usually one needle size (whether double-points or Magic Loop).

Again, we have samples for all these tried and true patterns.
Right now, I’m about 3/4 of the way done with a big old raglan turtleneck sweater in a discontinued yarn from my stash. I like to indulge myself with something just for me and not for the store during the slow time of summer, when new yarns have not yet started to arrive. I still have some key sales reps to see, so I can’t give you a teaser about what’s to come for fall, but in other news, Deb and Karen are thinking about starting a knit night at the store, maybe Thursday evenings starting in mid-July. Thoughts? Let me know at info@yarngal.com.
One last thing. Here is a link to Pat Darosh’s obituary if you’d like to read about our departed friend:
