It’s still technically summer, even though it doesn’t feel like it right now. This delightful weather is just so perfect for everything I love – sweaters, scarves, shawls, fingerless mitts…okay, not all at once, but a light sweater and a small shawl are just the ticket for walking Purl right now.
So the season is changing but I’m still fixated on garter stitch projects. I finished this scarf:
It turned out so pretty with the black accents, and softened beautifully after a simple blocking. The edges look wavy because the black yarn (from my stash) was a little lighter than the Noro, but I kind of like it. Any way, I’m going to write the pattern, very easy to knit, should be ready soon if you care to join me down the garter stitch rabbit hole.
And this, I swear, is my final garter stitch project for a long time:
This is the log-cabin blanket I mentioned last time, made with random balls of Berroco’s Remix that I collected over the past several years. It’s hard to show because a lot of it is on hold (I’m not binding anything off till I’ve finished it.) It’s kind of pleasant to have a throw on my lap right now, and I’m committed to having it done by the official end of summer. Then I really must do something more challenging, but garter stitch has been so good for processing all the stress of this year.
A little store business:
Being open again has been fun. It’s lovely to see people again, and everyone has been cooperative about masks and hand hygiene. We had a bit of a crush on Wednesday last week, which is typical for Wednesdays. If you’re uncomfortable about being around too many people, any other day is probably better.
This coming Saturday, the 26th, West Reading is having a Sidewalk Sale from 10 am to 5 pm. I won’t be participating but I will be open normal hours (11 -3). This is just a warning that the street may be crowded (with sensible mask-wearing people, I hope) and parking may be difficult.
I’ve put together a bunch of yarn-tasting kits for Berroco’s new fall yarns. I ordered the materials optimistically hoping we could have a get-together, but I’m not quite ready for that yet, so you can get a kit and have fun trying out all the new yarns at home. The kits are $12 and when you buy one, you can fill out a chance to win enough yarn and the patterns to make this pretty set:

And let me know your favorite. (Tiramisu is mine – I’m thinking of another Spencer – except: garter stitch!!! – aaaagh, I need help!)
