Every year I get very excited thinking about the week I allow myself to take off between Christmas and New Year. This is a golden time. Winter class lists will be finished, and tax stuff can’t start until after the new year begins. A whole wonderful 10 days to do just what I want. And what I want is to fill it up with knitting. To my mind, there’s nothing better than cozying up on the couch with a couple of furry companions, a new knitting project, and a good audiobook, with nothing to interfere with the bliss. I already have a bunch of audiobooks downloaded:
and several more. That part is taken care of but what will I knit???
First, Jack needs a new sweater. He’s old, he gets cold, he’s a weird lumpy shape and none of his sweaters fits him very well. I’m going start at the neck and do a couple inches of ribbing, then increase like crazy to get to his chest dimension, then split for his legs, then join and rib again for the finish. He’ll have to try it on every couple of inches. He’ll hate it by the time it’s done but at least he won’t be trying to walk with one of his legs through the neckhole, as pathetically happens now.
Then there’s this beautiful new yarn from Plymouth called Viento.
Look at those beautiful neutrals! It’s a chunky blend of alpaca and bamboo, very soft with a little shine, perfect for cowls and scarves. All the colors blend beautifully. I started a little double-sided cowl
because I couldn’t keep my hands off, but I’ll be thinking of another project for this lovely stuff.
There’s another new yarn that I want the perfect project for, but I didn’t get a picture and I’ve got to get started on the new class list so I’m not running up to the shop and getting distracted from the things I should accomplish today.
Speaking of the class list, though, here are some more finished projects from our recently completed classes:
Susie Drake’s beautiful Unda Shawl:
Loretta Hollenbach’s lovely Clouds in My Coffee Cardigan
And another, beautifully knit by Victoria Gibley (for her sister, lucky girl!)
And here is Jettie Hunt modeling her wonderful Cranberry Gose:
and the back, where you can see the gainsay motif:
Lovely job, ladies, and thanks for modeling! It’s an inspiration for us all, and so I’m off, newly energized, to get the new classes organized!!
