Tra-la, it’s fall. I’m distracted by so many things – new yarns, new designs, so many possibilities, so little time – that I’m going to go through my photos and just chat about whatever comes up.
I never showed you this gorgeous scarf that Janet made from Mimi, Trendsetter’s 100% mink yarn.
It’s called To-Ji, a free pattern from Berroco. So much fun to make, with different stitch patterns in each section, divided by pops of color. And it’s perfect for fall when you just want a little something on top of a light jacket or sweater. It’s a good length and weight to try a bunch of different ways to tie it, like this fun little video shows. Come in to try it on. The color bars are a good way to use up a couple ends, just get something light and luscious for the main yarn.
I’ve gotten distracted from the slip-stitch scarf in Shibui’s Maai that I showed you last week – I’m making a little progress but just had to start Hagan in Kodiak:
I made a lot of progress (which is great because everything else I want to do seems to be on size 4 needles). This is the front, nearly finished:
The back is done. Join shoulders, pick up sleeves, pick up funnel neck, and it will be done. It’s light as can be, and soft and cozy to work on these cool days and evenings. Everyone wants to know if it sheds and the answer is I’ve seen some fuzz while I’m working on it, but I think the yarn construction will keep the shedding to a minimum after it’s a sweater. Clever people at Berroco!
I saw a couple great T-shirts in the store this past week or so and wanted to share them. Jill Pelchar just got back from a trip to Ireland and here is one thing she brought back:
Cute, right? Nice knitting wool is hard to come by in Ireland, I hear. Janis Edwards just got back from there, too, and scored a few skeins of Irish wool, but had to search high and low for a yarn store and bully the tour bus driver to stop and let her see what they had for sale.
Margaret D’Amico always has some really cute knitting T-shirts and this one made me laugh:
The October Dream Club project was another distraction this past week. It’s a mobius cowl
done in a totally gorgeous colorway of Classy put up in a squishy oversized skein.
Gorgeous! I had to make it! Here’s mine (unblocked):
It was fun to re-learn the mobius cast-on – I watched Cat Bordhi’s excellent video on YouTube to refresh my memory. I have to say, so far this season, the Dream Club projects and yarns have been winners. By the way, I donated last month’s project, this gorgeous scarf/wrap
to United Artist’s Hope Cuts, which happens Sunday, October 19 at their salon at 3rd and Penn Avenue. If you love it, go get it!
Have you noticed all the oversized sweaters on the fashion blogs? Things have been so fitted the last few years, now it seems to be turning the other way, to big comfy sweaters like this:
and this:
and this:
Love, love, love! Got to knit faster!
