Brr! It’s a bright, cold, sunny February morning, the kind that starts out frigid, then warms up as the sun gets higher. Purl and I took a shorter-than-normal walk this morning, but I promised her a nice long stroll this afternoon. Getting outside in the sun will do us both a lot of good.
Especially since I’ve been knitting like crazy. I’ve had two projects lately that have absorbed my attention. One was Artus, a beautiful shawl in five colors and multiple color work techniques that was an obsession for a couple of weeks. This was an in-progress photo; it’s done now. (But that mistake that jumps out at you in the middle band is still there – tsk!)
The class starts this Sunday and it’s going to be lots of fun.
And right now I’m all in on this summer tunic in a new yarn called Soft Lino. I love to wear big loose pieces in the summer, with lots of holes for airiness but a lot of coverage nonetheless. I’ve finished one half of the body, and it looks nothing like something to wear yet:
Someday, however, it will look like this:
The magic of blocking, right? Now if I could just block MY shape to smooth it out and elongate it, that really would be magic! Anyway, after I block front and back pieces, they will need to be seamed, and I can hear all the yucks, groans, and oh-no’s, but I know how to do mattress stitch, I like to brush up now and then, and we can teach you how, too, so there’s no need to dread seaming. Then I’ll pick up for the sleeves, and I’m going to make them a bit narrower (not too much!) and a bit longer, which will suit the state of my upper arms. I suppose I could do pushups and other horrible things, but frankly, 3/4 sleeves are a lot easier.
Well, it has taken me a long time to do this simple little post because I’m still learning my new computer and the new versions of programs it needs. I had an ancient (truly) version of Photoshop that was perfectly adequate for my purposes but it was never going to work with this shiny new toy, so it all takes forever to do the simplest edit. I’m going to spend a bit of time with tutorials this morning.
In the meantime, if you need something to cheer you up, just look at this gorgeous Pop-Up colorway of Smooshy Cashmere from Dream in Color:
If these colors don’t brighten your day, I’m afraid it’s a lost cause!
