Things to know:
1. I’ve had to shut down the feature that allows customers to post their projects to this blog because we were getting some pretty nasty spam. Janelle at Design Revolution is updating a lot of things for me, including the blog format, the website, our logo and more (I’m pretty excited) and we’ll be asking you to post your own projects on our Facebook page shortly. Until that happens, I’ll miss David’s posts a lot!
2. After this coming Sunday, we will be closed until January 2. Yup, it’s coming that fast!
3. Susan Heist sent this link to a downloadable guide for estimating the yardage for a long-tail cast-on: http://wynnknit.com/documents/Yarn%20Tail%20Estimator%20for%20Long%20Tail%20Cast%20On.pdf She said it worked for her. Thanks, Susan!
4. We’re working on a new schedule of classes and will, I hope, have it posted shortly after Christmas. Look for an email letting you know when it’s up. It will include a new Friday series from Donna Guthrie. This time it will be hats, and she has already made some lovely ones. Hats are super-fashionable and make great learning projects. They’re small, fast, and little works of art. Just look at these two:
Elegant, lusciously warm, and deceptively simple with twisted stitches in creamy EcoCloud:
And this stunning cable and lace design in turquoise extrafine merino Maxima:
5. Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid:
Love it, hate it, you’ll see a lot of it this year!
This is Antler, a very cool design from Ankestrick.
It is a top-down seamless design (unless you’re me and hate to do sleeves in the round in which case it’s seamless except for the sleeves) with a slightly curved hem. She used a contiguous sleeve design which looks like a saddle shoulder. The modified funnel neck is shaped at the front with short rows:
I used a double strand of Findley, a wool-silk laceweight from Juniper Moon Farm, so that I could get an ombré look:
Enjoyed every minute of it, despite having to rip out 5 inches of the body to make more efficient use of the yarn. This is how it looks on me:
So now, I’m a little at loose ends again with the lovely prospect of having a lot of free time coming to knit and nothing particular on my to-do list. Well, there’s way too much on my to-do list but not much knitting. I finished my design in Meadow:
and David and Janet have agreed to test-knit the pattern, so I hope to have it available soon. I hope to do a summer pullover as well. If yarn comes to play with this week, that will be my vacation project. What will you be knitting over the holidays? I’d love to know!
