A Little Intimidated

This month has been rather undemanding at the shop, plus the weather has been of the stay-in-the-house-unless-you-really-must-go-out variety, so I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest, looking at boards entitled “Knitting.”  After the first few, they tend to get repetitive and there’s a lot of re-pinning from one to another, but many of the pins took me to blogs that are simply wonderful.  And elegant.  And lovely to look at and read.  Beautifully organized, fully tagged and categorized. Inspirational and very, very intimidating to me, who has just been flying by the seat of her pants for the last 400 or so posts.  I won’t win any prizes for photography, nor will I ever be elegant, but it may be time for a change.  In the meantime, check out Fringe Association’s blog and browse through her categories, then click on her Resources and Reads list and have fun!

I’ve been working on some small projects lately, still a lady-in-waiting for new yarn.  Some of our favorites are in need of a new model, so I’ve done a scarf in Riva and another in a variety of laceweight mohair.  Janet has finished a bulky reversible cable scarf in super-bulky yarn, and Karen is working on a fair-isle hat in Nature Spun Sport.  Some crazy stuff called Mélange (which is a bunch of different yarns tied together in sequence) came in and I’m making a small triangle shawl from it along with Venezia Worsted.  A couple of sweaters, a very cool poncho, a pretty textured shawl in Kumara – we’ll have a lot of new things for you knit come fall, and the new yarns haven’t even arrived yet!

Acadia is one of my favorite yarns of all time.  The texture is unique, the fiber blend is luxurious, the weight is versatile and the colors are numerous and stunning.  During this in-between period, I’m going to design something simple and lovely in it.  The only problem with Acadia is narrowing down the color choices but I think I’m going with this palette:

Still too many colors, but I’ll get there.  Although striped sweaters are extremely trendy right now (see Nothing But Stripes, Funky Grandpa and Sperry on Ravelry),  I’ll be keeping this to a smaller piece.  When new yarns do come in, I want my decks cleared.

Reminder:  This is the last full week of our summer yarn sale.  There are still beautiful colors in good quantities of Bamboo, Maya, Hempathy, Baby Boo, and many others – ends July 31!

See you soon…
