First Day of Spring!

Hooray!  Finally we can stop talking about how weird this winter has been and just enjoy the beautiful gorgeousness of this weather.  It’s spring!  And in celebration, I’m going to show you some beautiful new yarn we got in this past week. (So what else is new, you’re thinking.)

This is Dream, a nice textured cotton/nylon blend in pretty colors.

I bought it with nothing much in mind, just really liked it for something unusual.  Melissa Korth gave me the idea to make a skinny little summer scarf from it and it’s working up nicely in an open mesh.  I think one ball will do it.

The colors just got to me in this new yarn from Araucania called Lontue.

It’s a cotton/linen blend in a thick & thin texture.  Karen Wenrich is going to make it into a simple, loose-knit garter stitch cardy for summer.  I want her to hurry up, can’t wait to see it!  It will be a free pattern after she test-knits it for us.

This is Ruca, a fiber made from sugar, in wonderful semi-solid colorways.

It’s super-soft and a little splitty, but so, so pretty.  I’m using the fabulous blue to make the Sycamore Vest from Hannah Fettig.

Lots of knitting because of the gauge, but I love how it’s coming along.  I hope to show you next week.

Noro quit making Silk Garden Sock for a while, but people kept wanting it and designing for it and probably whining a little, so they’ve started making it again in a limited number of colors.  I have four of them in stock now:

Aren’t they beautiful? Not great for socks, in my opinion, but wonderful for shawls, scarves and sweaters.  And here is Taiyo Sock, a more cotton-y version with more yardage and lovely colors:

Some colors look similar in the photo, but when they’re knitted up, they’re very different.  The wonderful thing about Noro colors is the way they work together, each individual color playing its own role.  We all want to figure out something wonderful to do with these yarns, and judging from the way they’ve been snatched away from me (yes, snatched!  People keep taking yarn away from me and just giving me money in return.  It’s shameless!!) over the weekend, we’re going to see great projects.

We got some fabulous new colors of Hempathy also, but I didn’t get photos, sorry.

As you must know by now, the spring classes are up and doing very well.  I love the classes we have scheduled and so, it seems, do a lot of people!  Check them out on the Class page if you haven’t already.

I finished this interesting scarf this week – it was fun to knit even if seasonally inappropriate.  I needed a break from summer yarns and it was lovely to work with Meriboo, a wool and bamboo blend from Frog Tree.  The pattern is from a new line by Tanis Gray.

The stripes go in different directions and the lace edging is picked up.  Very fun!

Carol Coleman brought in her finished throw from the Crocheted Afghan classes.  I love her sophisticated color palette.  These blocks must have been so much fun to make, look at all that stitchwork.

Jayne O’Hare made this wonderful mitered shawl from the Noro Accessories book with Silk Garden.  It’s so beautiful!  She struggled through the crocheted loop fringe – it took a loooong time – but it was definitely worth it:

And Karen Shearer’s granddaughters wanted to show off the sweaters she made for them.  Aren’t they beautiful?  And the sweaters are pretty nice, too!

Happy first day of spring!  Enjoy it – I’m going to…
