Back in Action

I’m happy to report that the cataract surgery I had last week was successful and I’m seeing well, so we’ll be open this week as scheduled. I only have one eye that works well so I really couldn’t see much for a few days, which was a little scary and very boring and which made me sympathize with Purl more than ever.

I managed to get my BIL’s socks done before the surgery, but I ran out of yarn for the toes so this is how they turned out:

First time I ever ran out so I hope they’re not too big! I love the colors, though, and the little bit of difference at the toe is kind of fun.

The day after surgery I was only capable of making this little Buttoned Scarf, which is our most popular pattern ever. It’s a garter stitch strip with a button attached at one end:

And you wear it like this:

Makes a super fast and useful gift!

After I could see a bit better, I picked up my Red Box again. I had saved the long and boring knit-in-the-round-for-a-couple-of-miles to finish the body just for this occasion. Got it done, and so glad to be finished:

Mine is not red, of course, more a heathery blue-ish something. (My color sense has changed a lot since the surgery, every color looks a little different now – I’m sure it will become ordinary but right now, it’s startling and revelatory.) It will be an easy thing to pop on over anything this winter and it served its purpose of keeping my hands busy while not being able to do much else.

So things will be back to normal now, for a couple of weeks, then the holidays come along and we’ll be shut down again between Christmas and New Year. I hope you have plenty to knit and are finishing up your gifts.

I also hope you are all safe and sound and staying home as much as possible. A friend, active and healthy, is now in the hospital battling Covid, and it’s touch and go. Keep your heads down, my friends, this battle is not over.
