We’re well into our third week of being open by appointment and so far, so good. It has been so nice to see people again, even with our masks on. It’s great catching up a little and seeing how people are doing with their projects and finding something new and exciting to work on.
(Speaking of masks, may I just say this: Homemade masks are wonderful and I’ve been the recipient of lovely ones, but please make sure yours fit you well. If you have to constantly adjust them and pull them up to cover your nose, they are not doing their job. They should be keeping your hands away from your face, not making contamination more likely with a lot fussing.) (Lecture over, class dismissed.)
Last time I showed you a photo of Westbound, a great tee by Elizabeth Doherty that I was just starting. Well, since then, I’ve made two of them! One is in a cotton-acrylic yarn which came from my stash. It is a little too big and I don’t love the yarn but it turned out well enough to make me want to do another.
So I made this one, in Sonata from Noro, which I do love, love, love.
Westbound has all kinds of great features. A self-finishing neckline. Short-row shaping at the shoulders. I-cord edges at the sleeves and hem. A slip stitch detail on the front and back for a little structure and a nice vertical line. Underarm shaping for a great fit. Adaptable sleeve length. And a pretty lateral braid across the back for structure and just for the fun of doing it :
I do truly love it and think it looks pretty darn good, even with my lockdown weight (and lockdown hair):
Working all these wonderful details would make a great class and it makes me sad that we’re just not ready to start them yet. Every day brings terrible news from places that opened earlier than Pennsylvania so I think the cautious and safe thing to do is wait a few more weeks to see how things go once we go green here.
I’m getting ready, though! I’ve been clearing extraneous junk out of the classroom to allow us to spread out more, and thinking of wonderful projects for us to make, and planning other events that would be fun once we can get together again.
Meanwhile, I’ll stay in touch a little more often. I miss you! Stay safe and well. And keep knitting, even it’s just a nice little scarf like this:
(Thanks to my lovely ex in Thailand for sending this. So funny! Because it’s true!)
