When I was young back in the Dark Ages of the late 1960’s, I took a secretarial course after I left college to get married, because young married women without a college degree could do a few things; basically you could work as a salesclerk or work as a secretary. Just until you had kids, of course, then you stayed home to be a mom and a housewife. That was my “game-plan” (as if I had any), but the kids never happened so things went a different way after a while. Anyway, what I want to know is why I can’t type worth a darn anymore. If, when I was really a secretary and had a lovely IBM Selectric for my job, I had made so many mistakes, the whole page would have been Wite-Out from top to bottom. It must be computers, which make it too easy to correct things so now all I do is type and backtrack, type and backtrack. And I’ve noticed that a lot of people who post a lot aren’t even doing that, they just let the misspellings and so on stay there. It makes me a little crazy because I do so love proper spelling and grammar. (I would put an eye-rolling emoji here if this software would let me. Not because it’s not true but because I’m aware of how tedious and old-fashioned it is.)

Anyway, on to knitting, which I haven’t been doing a lot of lately. (Yes, I know that properly I should say “of which I haven’t been doing a lot lately” but even I can’t bring myself to that level of persnickety-ness.) I’ve embarked on a sweater that is done in pieces in a yarn from my stash that is completely out of character. It’s a challenge to keep going, but one thing that spurs me onward is that it’s a bulky yarn so it goes fast. It’s pretty wild, with some built-in bobbles:

So we’ll see! I can already tell that it will be a joy to get back to my typical knitting. There are other things I also want to do, just because, but I’m trying to hold off because I have to keep an eye on Ruby all the time at home. She’s still unreliable on the very important “Don’t pee in the house” rule. And really, there aren’t many other rules at my house.

Classes have done well so far, but there are two we’ve rescheduled to allow more participation. The first is Karen’s pretty Boulevard des Fleurs pullover,

with the model just finished. It’s such a great project, with top-down circular-yoke construction and the perfect yarn

(with plenty of other choices, of course) so we’ve delayed the start of the class till October 25 with the hope that that will enable more people to participate. Come in, try on the model, check things out in person.

And the schedule for our second beginner level, with fingerless mitts as the project, is also changed to Thursdays, October 9 & 23 from 4-6 pm. This time worked out better for the folks who took level 1 and maybe for you too? If you know basic knit and purl, this class will take you further in your knitting adventures.

And there are still a few spaces in our Eidola Shawl, Beaded Socks, and Emotional Support Chicken classes. Check them out!

Are you making pumpkins yet? Every fall I think I might because there are so many cute patterns out there. I never get around to it, but here are some I kind of yearn for (for which I yearn):

Wheat Stitch Pumpkin Trio (crochet)

Gourdgeous Knit Pumpkins (crochet version too)

Handsome Cable Pumpkin (free on Ravelry)

Fall is finally here!
