I’m writing on a cool rainy April morning – in the middle of June. I’m not complaining; just a couple days of high 80’s temperatures and I’m happy for a cool and rainy day. I put on a cozy sweater for my walk this morning and was glad I haven’t yet finished washing all the wool sweaters. Once they’re washed and put away for the season, my rule is they’re off-limits till fall. Otherwise I’d have steamy wool sweaters drying all over the house all summer. Besides, when you get them out in the fall, it’s like having a whole set of beautiful new sweaters ready to wear.

Last time I showed you the beginnings of a one-skein scarf called Shard. I bitched about it the whole time I was knitting it, as many can attest, with its eleventy-skillion short rows, but look how cute it turned out!

It went from this scungy-looking little thing

to this pretty and interesting scarf, very wearable and as soft as can be in Smooshy Cashmere!

I love Smooshy Cashmere, and I’ve promised myself to make more one-skein projects with it this summer. This is my next colorway, called Montauk, wound up and ready to go:

I believe I’ll do our Vine Lace Scarf in this soft colorway. It’s a simple lace stitch, good for travel and waiting rooms. I wonder if I can work my way through all these amazing colors in one summer? (The answer is no, but I can try!)

One more project to show you:

This is an asymmetric shawl called Dohne, knit from one ball of Poema Cashmere, a subtle gradient and a blend of wool and cashmere, and the shawl is just as light and fluffy and soft as it appears. Yummy!

The rainy weather has made a lot of time for knitting, and I hope you’re getting something done, too. Fall, birthdays, Christmas, babies – all will be here before we can blink, and don’t forget our friends and neighbors who would appreciate a gift of warmth this winter, just because.

The store will be closed this Saturday, June 21 for Art on the Avenue. Our beginning session at 10 am will also be cancelled. Come have fun on the Avenue, but don’t come for yarn!
