I love the cool nights we’ve been having, and can’t resist having windows open all night. That means the house smells fresh, but it’s also a bit chilly in the mornings. So the other day, I was feeling a little shiver-y while finishing up some paperwork and, while reminding myself to take the latest project with me to the shop to get a photo, I also thought – let’s take this little number for a test drive. I put this little mini-poncho on over my t-shirt and instantly felt cozy at my desk without being overwhelmed by a lot of fabric.
So this cowl/mini-poncho is made from one skein (400+ yards!) of Juniper Moon Farm’s new yarn Iris. It’s a blend of suri alpaca, silk and merino – so soft, and delightful to wear around your neck. The fuzz takes a bit of getting used to while you’re knitting it, but I used a size 8 needle so it’s completely manageable. The seed stitch rib pattern is easy to memorize and doesn’t need a border. You can wear it at your desk for a little bit of warmth or inside (or over) a coat for a toasty added layer. It’s a free pattern with purchase of Iris and also includes instructions for a regular scarf.
We’re beginning to get some of our new yarns and colors in. I’m trying to remember to take some pictures as we ooh and ahh over everything but it’s tough when ideas for new projects pop into your head and you want to take it home right now and forget that you’re supposed to sell it. Karen finished her adorable Holiday Doodle Stocking, a class she’s teaching in November. There are still some openings if you want a fun way to learn or practice stranded knitting.
I love the off-beat colors and all the snowflake motifs, finished off with adorable coffee cups. My favorite part is where the heel is outlined with that fancy little frieze – so cool. You get to choose which patterns you use and which colors go where! We have loads of colors to choose from so you can be traditional or go wild.
We just had the first Book Club Cardigan class and I think I’m lucky to be alive to write this morning! Getting started was a challenge for me when I was knitting the model, and even though I tried to simplify and explain, it’s difficult while you’re getting started and that’s that. Everything will smooth out soon and get more straightforward, but the start was, shall we say, a bit nerve-wracking. Everyone took it with good humor and determination, and I feel so lucky to have such a positive group.
There are so many new things to show you but that will have to wait till next time or when you get a chance to come in to see what’s new, get inspired, and inspire us, too!
One more thing – Saturday the 21st is Fall Fest on the Avenue. Lots of fun, but I won’t be open – too many people and not enough parking! Sorry for any inconvenience.
