How’s your summer going? Mine is getting busier, as we ramp up for fall, exploring new classes, looking at new yarns we love, and making plans for new projects. I’m still (!!) working on my aran cardigan, heading down the first sleeve. It’s slow and intricate work, but I think this lovely classic will be totally worth the time you invest. Here’s my WIP, unblocked of course:

Black & white really shows the texture, doesn’t it? Love, love, love so far.

So, while the weather is alternately fabulous or disgusting, but definitely summer-y, I’ve been applying myself diligently to a very cold-weather cardigan. But my mind has constantly drifted to summer knitting (which, alas, I do in February and March.) I’ve seen so many wonderful striped projects lately on Ravelry, and I’m going to indulge myself with fantasies of lightweight breezy fabrics by sharing them with you!

The one that almost nabbed my goal-oriented soul away from Woolly Cardigan was Albina by Caitlin Hunter.

It’s an easy bottom-up drop-shoulder pullover that just looks like Summer to me – stripes that are sailor-ish but that don’t blare at you, loose-fitting design, airy fabric, and the only detail is the nicely-tuned set of neckline decreases. Two colors of our Soft Lino or Eco-Organic Cotton would be just right!

Another nice striped pullover, this is Sandport by Ysolda Teague. Again, drop-shoulder, stripes that feel fresh, plus a deep rib and split hem.

Maybe you’re tired of stockinette stitch, so here’s a cute little tee in a broken-rib stitch called Friday Tee by Petiteknit. It’s a neat little raglan in fingering weight yarn, which is good because broken rib would be heavy for summer in a heavier weight.

Isabel Kraemer has several summery striped patterns that I like. Dingley Dell shows off bolder stripes, with contiguous sleeves (well-fitting, can be lengthened if you want):

Pier 39 is a brand-new release:

And a pretty striped shawl in summer colors would be just the thing for evenings: outdoor concerts, dinner al fresco, walks through a dusky park. I want this shawl and I want this night-life! Here is Isabel’s Porto Connection.

Heidi Kirrmaier also has some good striped designs. Here is her Ship Shape Pullover, which has an interesting shoulder detail. (There is also a crew-neck version.)

her Ship Shape Cardigan:

and her cute uber-beachy bag Medano Beach:

Wooly Cardigan has a lot of competition!

I have some good customer projects to show you, too, but enough is enough!! See you soon.
