First things first: This week will be spotty at the shop. I’m having work done at my house on Thursday and don’t have a time yet so I might be open and I might not! Is this any way to run a railroad? No, but we aren’t busy enough this time of year to worry about getting someone else to watch the store. AND, we won’t be open Saturday because of Art on the Avenue. So, I’ll see you Wednesday or Friday or not at all!
Okay, let’s talk knitting! I should be working like crazy on a class schedule for July and August, but I’m not. It’s June, beautiful weather, and there are other more fun things to be doing. I have summer vacation brain, I guess. I’ll get over it when the weather gets too hot to enjoy being outside and then we’ll see about a class schedule.
I have been knitting, though. I just finished this nice summer pullover, called Erell,
which was designed in wool with long sleeves and I like it very much that way, but I adapted it for summer a bit, doing it in cotton and making the sleeves 3/4 length and added ease the whole way. I like loose clothing in the summer so I didn’t want anything clingy or tight. The stitch that makes the fading texture
is fun to do and gets you through the long boring lower body that is usually just knit in the round until you want to stab yourself with a knitting needle to relieve the monotony.
We’ve received a couple of (wonderful) shipments. First, Manos sent us this lovely batch of Maxima, our favorite soft, soft, soft hand-dyed worsted weight wool, perfect for warm hats, scarves, cowls, and mittens:
and Noro sent us this nice supply of Sonata, our best no-wool DK-weight yarn that is so lovely in seasonless sweaters and shawls:
And I made, in just a few days, this adorable little girl’s one-piece cropped shrug from one ball of Landscape. Very sweet, very quick!
The other day when I came to the shop, this little guy (or lady – who knows?) had attached itself to the outside of the front door. It made me laugh because it was like a little kid with his nose pressed up against the window of a candy store. I’m sure a nice woolly yarn shop is just like a candy store to a moth!
