Well, this surprised me this morning!
I should tune in to local weather a bit more closely, obviously!
So, the first snow of the season and it comes at just the right time, when I’m in the mood to make a bunch of luxe little gifty things to send out into the world over the next month. I have a nice little pile already made:
and every one of them was a pure pleasure to make. These little things can be made from the most wonderful yarns; you can splurge for that price-y ball of cashmere, either to make something for someone special or just to have the experience of working with an unusual yarn. Like this simple cowl, made from one ball of Frabjous Fibers’ Tweed:
The yarn is soft and lovely, with unusual and beautiful blends of colors,
but it has a lot of personality all on its own, so it calls for something simple that lets the yarn do the work. The model was very reluctant to take the cowl off on this chilly morning. (She also asked me to photo-shop the wrinkles out, but I told her not to be so vain.)
I’m embarking on a couple of pairs of Last-Minute Mittlets in super-warm and fluffy Cashmere Light for my sister and her daughter, who both suffer from Reynaud’s Syndrome, where they suddenly lose circulation in their fingers and toes. This luxuriously soft and insulating fiber should help keep their hands warm and their fingers active.
My little pile of gifts also includes a couple pairs of socks and these super-bulky mittens from Berroco’s Coco:
If you have one day or two afternoons to spare, these mittens are your dream project – the whole pair was done in a (long-ish) day. They are for my wonderful neighbor, who blows leaves off my lawn all through the autumn and includes my little patch of weeds in her lawn-mowing routine.
Pretty soon, it will be time for Karen, Deb and me to buckle down and come up with our winter class schedule, but just for now, I’m knitting like crazy and loving every minute. I hope you’re having as much knitting fun this year as I am!
