Well! I don’t know where to begin, there’s so much to talk about. One thing I won’t discuss is what the heck happened to my blog when I did my last update because I still don’t know. It has something to do with Safari because I’m using a different browser and things seem to work fine right now. We’ll see when I go to post this, I guess.
Anyway, I hope you all have seen our classes; we have such a great list this fall! Things are filling up well, but there are still some spaces in the later ones so if you want to a) learn stranded (aka Fair Isle) knitting,
b) try cables,
c) knit a toe-up sock, d) make some quick gifts, come look at the models and jump right in! In fact, if you’ve always wanted to knit our Napa Pullover,
Deb’s class has started but it’s not too late for you to catch up
I have an extra-long weekend due to the Fall Fest on Penn Avenue, and I’m using it to finish cleaning the shop (blah) and go through my stash (yum). The stash mostly resides in my attic and hasn’t been visited for a while because it’s just been too hot up there, but I found a couple of precious balls of cashmere in this luscious red so I’m making Dark Side mittens for one of my sisters.
I’ll have just enough, and that’s very satisfying. I’m in the mood for little projects that are a bit fussy right now, so of course that means very soon I’ll be in the mood for big projects that aren’t fussy! I’ve found that one of my favorite winter sweaters is Guenevere by Cabin Fever, so easy to wear and fun to knit, with reverse raglan seamless construction. Mine is years old and I could use a replacement! I just need to find the right wool – I’m on the hunt.
I mentioned cleaning the shop, which I try to do during the summer when no one is around, but didn’t get to this past summer, just didn’t have the ambition. Cooler weather always makes me more energetic so I’m just getting around to it now. When this happens, I always discover lots of single skeins of this or that, so the bargain bin is absolutely bursting right now.
If you love to make small projects, you should check it out! This process also makes room for new yarn, which is arriving in ridiculous amounts. We just got a lovely box of Tweed from Wonderland Yarns in new colors.
It’s the softest, silkiest, yummiest yarn imaginable, with so much personality, all it requires is a beautifully simple design to allow it to shine. We made Eno from it last year, but I’m pretty sure we won’t be able to keep our hands off it so who knows what it will become next?
Wonderland also sent us these pretty colors of Mary Ann “sock” yarn,
which I put in quotes because this yarn is soft, strong, beautifully hand-dyed, and almost too pretty to get stuck in a shoe. But! if you’re the kind of sock knitter who loves to add fun heels and toes to your otherwise staid sock, we also received a wonderful assortment of mini-skeins in Mary Ann.
These little beauties can also be added to shawls, stranded knitting, amigurumi, toys, and anything that needs a spark of color and variety.
And don’t forget our incredible collection of Smooshy Cashmere from Dream in Color. We have this gorgeous Pop-up Club colorway,
but also the semi-solids are so rich that I really want a little long-sleeved tee to wear with everything this winter:
Are you getting sick of yarn pictures? I can’t help myself, I’m still addicted after all these years. The only thing better than looking at beautiful yarn is knitting with it and then wearing it! In fact, I’m going to go visit my cold-weather sweaters, which have been swaddled in plastic zipper bags for months. Soon they can come out to play!
