Well, wasn’t Monday’s rain day just what we needed? A lovely, soft and long-lasting shower is what I think we were all hoping for. When we have these long dry spells, I get worried that in 50 years, our beautiful part of the country could turn into desert. Fanciful, isn’t it? …and unlikely, but when it comes to the weather, we’re in uncharted territory. Plus, today is a perfect weed-pulling day, and that’s what I intend to do when I’m done here.
I’ve been knitting (I don’t know why I always need to tell you that, it’s pretty much a given, right?) I’ve just embarked on a new sweater and I’m in love, as I always am at the start of something new. It’s so pretty! Love the design, love the fabric, love the color…
I promise you, in two weeks, I’ll be thoroughly sick of the whole project, but isn’t that the way it goes? At that point, I’ll need to start something small that I can finish up quickly. I’m thinking mittens for a lot of people this year. But that thought may vanish with my first pair, which will be for Maxwell the Great (Nephew) who is, unbelievably, 7 years old now.
For the last several weeks, I’ve been messing around with Amy Christopher’s Pressed Flowers idea. She has several patterns using this concept, and Karen is making the most gorgeous cardigan. I wanted to join the crowd so I bought her cowl pattern. I liked the stitch pattern but her cowl didn’t work for me. For one thing, the flowers were sideways and you had to sew the cowl up and I couldn’t understand why it couldn’t be in the round. So I unseamed the cowl and modified it into a scarf,
then made my own cowl in the round.
I think one or the other will be a class later in the summer, just to learn the technique. (Not sure about the cardigan; Karen will have to decide about a class.) I can’t offer a free shop pattern because we used the designer’s charts, so she deserves the money. It’s a pretty and interesting project, and I can think of so many combinations of yarns that could be used!
Don’t forget the store will be closed from June 17th through June 27th. I’m excited to have some time off – the store is a bit boring this time of year, and I get into a lot of trouble wandering around looking at possibilities and gathering colors together for new projects, then, sadly, putting them back on the shelves because I’m a grown-up and there are already projects to be finished. I’ll be working on a new class schedule, which will start after July 4th; lots of good ideas. I’m excited about fall, too, and have been looking at (and ordering, of course) new yarns and new colors. So many beautiful things – I just want to have them all right now!! (But, I’m a grown-up, yada, yada…)
When I walk Purl in the mornings, I usually don’t take my phone, but this last Sunday, we walked to the Museum and I took my phone in the hope of getting a photo of the beautiful heron that inhabits that area, and I did get a picture, in my own pathetic way. He/she’s impressive, could probably look me straight in the eye if we ever met face-to-face:
I hope you can spot him/her – a beauty!
