Happy almost-Valentine’s Day! I hope the folks who made the cute, useful, and quick Heartsome Headband class are rocking their headbands this morning while it’s still cold enough to enjoy them. If you see someone in a bright pink headband with a heart motif, greet them warmly – they are a fellow knitter!
I, on the other hand, have been working on 2 projects that are both taking a long time and lost my interest about 2 weeks ago. I’m still plugging away on my huge blanket (now, how many times have I said that in the blog, I wonder), my only goal being to get it done before the weather warms up so that the huge fuzzy thing is not on my lap, although it’s lovely and cozy right now. And I just have the toes to finish on my ex’s socks, which have taken forever, it seems. So rather than working on them, I wasted a little time figuring out how much more is involved with making a pair of socks for someone with size 11 feet (my ex) vs. someone with size 6 feet (moi). Not counting toes and gussets, which are too complicated for my math skills, I estimated that it takes about 7,000 more stitches to make a pair of the big socks! (!!!!) So I’m glad I’m almost done.
Now, I’m the type of knitter who tries to stay dedicated to a project. Leaving a project to marinate (or fester, as I think of it) without working on it for a while is the kiss of death for me. I like having a couple of things going on, something big and then something portable. But when they are both taking forever, a girl needs a break, a little excitement, and she might stray, right? This week I strayed into this:
Vanessa Ewing designed this very cute, very simple one-piece baby cardigan for super-bulky yarn, and it literally took one slow day at the shop to make it. One and a half balls of Flash, size 15 needles, and Boom! You’ve got an adorable baby gift to keep in stock until needed. It cheered me right up!
I’m still on the hunt for the perfect summer cardigan. I know, I thought I had settled on something and I still like it, but when I set up the search in Ravelry (fingering to dk weight yarn, one color, nothing fancy), it turned up some patterns already in my library. In fact, I had 39 patterns, bought and paid for, that fit my criteria. (I’ve made 17 of them and why I bought the other 22, I can’t really say.) Did any of them set my heart alight with knitting fire? Nope.
The search continues….
