So Much Yarn, So Little Time!

We have finally gotten our full complement of lovely spring/summer/early fall yarns, and I want to knit with them all. Such beautiful colors, so many ideas.

These fun self-striping color-ways of Lang Sock Yarn arrived:

All our new sock knitters will want to jump on these! And we also received another new Lang sock yarn called Twin Silk, a blend of wool, nylon and silk. Each ball has two identical sections of gradient shades, going from very light to dark, so you will have 2 identical socks.

Here is half a ball wound up (I just had to see!):

Can’t wait to try it!

After I finished the Laura Vest sample for class, which took a lot of concentration (just ask the folks in the class) – I loved making it, BUT – I needed something simple to work on for a while. So I took all these lovely pastels in Pebble (wool/silk/cashmere) from Shibui

and made this:

It’s a gossamer-weight 36″ square scarf/wrap that is just lovely in every way! A little ribbing to start (I did the crimped look with blocking wires), then lots of stockinette with a slip-stitch edge going from color to color with blending stripes to give it a little interest. It’s a great travel project if you have a lot of down time, or if you just need to have some simple knitting for a (long) while. Here’s another look at it:

Noro’s new yarn Uchiwa arrived in all its colorful glory:

It’s a DK weight blend of cotton/viscose/silk, so an appropriate weight and fiber blend for summer. I’m crocheting (yes, I like to do a crochet project now and then, just to keep my hand in) a shawl from Noro’s new magazine:

There are also a few nice patterns for knit shawls (and really a lot of horrible things that should only be blankets and should never be worn in public). This nice sideways knit tee in Uchiwa is a free pattern until I run out.

Here’s another look at Uchiwa:

Sonata, as everyone is sick of hearing, is my favorite summer yarn. Also from Noro, it’s a lovely semi-solid that has drape but is not clingy, holds up well to gentle machine washing – so important in a summer garment – and looks great with the textured knitting that I love – cables, lace, intricate stitch patterns all look beautiful in Sonata. Am I rhapsodizing? Perhaps I am. So anyway, I have every possible color there is in this yarn – thinking of doing a summer knit along using this yarn, just haven’t settled on a pattern yet. Meanwhile, here is a color wheel of Sonata, just for fun:

By the way, there is still room in a few classes and if your gardening is just about done for this spring, maybe you’ll find time to learn something new! Pebble Beach Shawl, Mosaic Hat, and Beginner all have spaces, so check out our class page for more details. Have a fabulous May!!
