While I’ve been waiting for some more new yarns and basically just avoiding a new class schedule, I decided to poke around in the store and in my stash and see what might surface. I didn’t want to commit to another sweater right away. It’s spring, and there’s lots to do outside! So I’m running from small project to small project right now.
But first I want to show you one big thing I just finished: a blanket for my nephew’s son Jonathan, who just went to college last fall. This blanket got started in September and finally is finished. Of course, I planned to have it done before now, but, really I was, to say the least, overly optimistic. (Aren’t we always?) It’s in his school colors, and I wanted something a bit masculine but more interesting to knit than just stripes. This pattern is derived, with adjustment for size and additional colors from Bilberry Blanket from OGE Knitwear. I liked it for its slip stitch pattern and especially the border which transitions from Cartridge Stitch to Gull Stitch before moving on to the main pattern. I still have *a few* ends to tack down.
I owe my wonderful brother-in-law another pair of socks. The pair I sent him for Christmas was so small, they fit my sister. So I decided to make these in Regia’s Pairfect, and I fear that this pair is too large.
I feel like Goldilocks. One more pair to get them just right.
I came across a beautiful skein of Dream in Color’s Smooshy Cashmere in my stash. I have finally realized that my stash has reached SABLE (Stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy, a term coined by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee), and I must start knitting from it now and then, not just gleefully opening bins and gloating over my yarn wealth like some crazy miser. Anyway, one-skein projects are fun, and I decided to make this little cowl, which could have been bigger, but I was done at this point – you all know that point, right? The pattern is Pollinae Cowl by Erin Kurup.
These hats are done with chunky yarn. They’re warm with the turn-up ribbing, and I like them mostly because the decreases happen super fast at the top so you only need the double-points for a few rounds. It’s a free-with-purchase pattern in 3 sizes called “Kris Hat.” We used Lang “Kris” and Lana Gatto’s “ZenZero.”
I finished a little sweater in Berroco’s “Spree,” which I wrote about last time. It’s called Zeva” by Laura Aylor. I added some sleeve length and started the lace pattern on the side a bit lower on the body. The lace is a bit obscured by the busy colors (would show beautifully in Sonata but how many Sonata sweaters can one person knit?) It’s a pretty and comfortable sweater nonetheless.
So I’m down to one project right now, a pair of shortie socks in CoBaSi called Fly Me to the Moon by Sara R, and that’s almost done:
So what’s next on the needles? I’m still ruminating about a class project so I have research to do. But this afternoon, I’m going to the back yard to dig in the dirt a little, while it’s not too warm or buggy. Then a shower and perhaps a bit more stash-diving for inspiration! Hope you have the same fun kind of day!
