Distractions

Deb Cech finished her model of the Indigo Frost Poncho that she’s teaching this season and I really want to show you how lovely it is, but I keep getting distracted! Now, I have a very quiet life. No kids, no grand-kids, no husband or partner. Just me, one small dog, a small house. Yet I am constantly being put off my plans by – well, by anything!

As I sat down to write this post, my old address book caught my eye. It’s stuffed full of (ancient) address labels and cards and I wanted to send a friend a note (yes, an actual paper note with an envelope and stamp and everything!) All of a sudden, I was taking a trip down memory lane. Here was an update on the state of a new house for an old friend who has been gone since 2005. And here is the page listing addresses for my nephew from Gaithersburg, Maryland, through Syracuse NY, Portland OR, Apex NC, and finally to Houston where they have happily settled after much to-ing and fro-ing across the country. His son is in his first year at college in Colorado; an afghan in his school colors is on my couch, slowly growing long enough to cover his tall frame. And here is my cousin’s address, where I shipped yarn to make elaborate cabled baby blankets for each of her grandchildren. (And I wonder how they are all faring and maybe I should break my rule and check in on Facebook? – No, no, no because there goes the rest of the morning!)

Bills to pay, patterns to update, orders to place – there’s always something to grab my attention, but by golly, I’m going to show you this beautiful poncho if it’s the last constructive thing I do today:

Gorgeous, yes? Beautifully knit by Deb in washable Worsted Merino Superwash and self-striping Sesame as the accent yarn, with short rows to shape the neckline so it fits and falls beautifully. There are still a couple spaces left in the class! You’ll be introduced to the afore-mentioned short rows, mosaic colorwork, and eyelet patterns, as well as increases. Lots of increases.

We ordered an array of go-with-everything colors, and with spotty availability, I was thrilled to get this lovely selection (along with some brighter choices that you can check out in the shop):

Okay, this mission was accomplished, despite my brain nagging me about a dozen other things. Have a lovely day and picture yourself on a crisp and sunny spring day in your beautiful new poncho!
