So, are you tired of getting emails from everyone about “Quick Gifts You Can Still Make Before Christmas!” and so on? You can still make a lot of them, if you have the yarn, the time, the skills, and six arms and can also knit with your toes. I hope you’re already well-stocked with gifts that you’ve made all year, and if you’re not, we know what one of your New Year’s resolutions needs to be, right?
So let’s talk about something more fun, like gifts for yourself! And I have a good idea:
These are Koigu Pencil Boxes, and they are filled with inspirational sets of 10 beautifully handpainted 25g skeins of Koigu KPPPM, their prized fingering-weight merino yarn. Each box has a total of 870 yards (price is $78). Every little skein is a masterpiece of color, but together, they really spark creativity.
What to do with them? I’ve found many ideas and of course can’t decide what to make! I’ll let you decide for yourselves; see below. (Keep in mind that some of these projects will require more yarn than the Pencil Boxes contain, but you can fill out the rest from your own stash or from our selection of lovely fingering-weight yarns.)
Making this shawl would be tedious if it weren’t for beautiful color changes. Size is adjustable and the knitting is great for long winter nights in front of the TV.

Obviously, you would need a contrasting solid or semi-solid for this half-circle shawl – and I know where to find some if you are lacking…

I can just imagine how squishy-cozy this shawl is in brioche.
