Congratulate Me!

I finally got my second shot yesterday! So far, no ill effects, and I’m feeling fortunate and optimistic. It’s been a while since I’ve felt “up” instead of just in a holding pattern, or “languishing” as the NYTimes called it. I don’t care whether this optimism is unwarranted or not, or whether the economy rushes into inflation, or that anti-vaxxers might keep us from herd immunity, or anything else right now. I’m ready for some irrational exuberance! Let the new Roaring Twenties begin!

Okay, back down to earth. First, pity the poor folks who are knitting along with me on Romi’s Spring Shawl MKAL 2021. I’m using this as a way for me to learn Zoom, and it’s painful for all of us. For some reason which I have yet to discover, I keep ending up in a different meeting, all by myself. It’s lonely and boring in that meeting! I’ll figure it out, but I feel incredibly stupid right now.

Here’s how my shawl is going so far:

I’ve been obsessed with this color-way of Alegria since I first saw it, and I love it, but I’ll admit that a less variegated version would show all the nice texture better. I’m tempted to start another with a solid or semi-solid (or with Frabjous Fibers’ Blossom gradient!)

but I’m afraid whichever version I liked least wouldn’t get finished. Not sure I have the wherewithal to make 2 of the same.

And I finished a sweater. This is Aldous by Isabell Kraemer (her version):

And this is the version I made for summer, in a cotton blend and with 3/4 sleeves.

It’s quite plain except for a cute braid around the hem and cuffs, a purl stitch at the sides and up the center back, and a split hem at the ribbing.

It’s a nice sweat-shirty sweater that would have been much more enjoyable to knit in wool – as would anything – but will be very wearable this summer.

BTW, Purl’s e-collar is off and her eyes look great, but her sight has still improved only marginally. I’m a little disappointed for her. Of course, she’s just fine with it and can navigate the world a bit better than before, so I’m not sorry I had it done; the cataracts would have had to come off sometime anyway before they started irritating her eyes and causing other problems.

That’s it for me today. I’m finally hopeful that we can start planning for classes very soon. I’m definitely ready!

I hope you’re enjoying this wonderful day!
