I don’t know about you, but for me, during these ugly days of uncertainty, inconvenience, and general disgust, I want to knit something pretty, pretty, pretty! I don’t want some practical neutral piece that will go with everything and plod day-to-day through the next 25 years. Enough plodding, already!
I want something silly or luxurious or outré that will make me smile, make me feel lovely, and I want to knit those things for the people I love, too. I want colors I’m crazy about, I want fluffy and soft and silky. If it weren’t a hundred million degrees in my attic, I’d be raiding my stash for anything cashmere or yak or baby camel, preferably in pink or purple or a pretty blue. It’s a hot and humid July but I seem to be unable to think about anything but fuzzy, warm yarns. They’re the comfort food of knitting (and I really must start avoiding the comfort foods of eating so maybe substitute one for the other?) It seems that yarn companies are feeling the same because there are a number of new yarns that fit the bill for fall, and I hope I can show you soon, and maybe even buy some for all of us to indulge in.
Anyway, the following projects will show some ways to use your indulgent yarns. They are lovely accessories and so much fun to make:
Janis Edwards made the Nightshift shawl and a beautiful pastel version of Interlude:
Cindy Rowits made a lighter weight Nightshift using DK weight yarns:
and Patty Jackson made this pretty Nightshift, maybe for her sister and maybe to keep. I don’t know how that decision came out:
Lenore Peloso made hats for presents. Here are two, the first a beautiful version of Saudade
and this fun and quick cabled hat called Northward, with the perfect pompom:
Nancy Rambo made this pretty Groovy shawl, one of my favorite patterns for self-striping yarns:
And Anne Alderman finished this lovely shawl, a classic triangle with alternating lace and stockinette bands:
Thanks so much to everyone who bothers to bring in their finished projects. You should be so proud of your skills. I am, and so grateful to know so many accomplished knitters!!
Remember I’m just a phone call away. Stay safe, stay well, we miss you!
