And How Are You?

Dare I say this? I didn’t know it, but all my life I’ve been waiting for a Stay-at-Home order! I know this is hard on you gregarious types, but for reclusive personalities like mine, this is a walk in the park. Which, by the way, Purl and I have been doing a lot. She, being more the out-going type, misses her many friends. I’m a poor substitute!

I miss you, too. I feel like I’ve been reading a novel that has abruptly ended without resolving all the story lines. I don’t know how operations turned out, how your projects are going, how you’re coping with all this, how your families are. (Mine is fine so far. Maxwell the Great (Nephew)’s 4th birthday party was via Skype since his cupcake party at daycare couldn’t happen. It was quite fun to watch him open his presents. The makers of Paw Patrol merchandise also had a great day.)

Of course I’ve been knitting, and thank goodness for a useful occupation to keep our minds and hands busy! I’m still working on shop models for some new spring yarns. Most of my distributors are shut down for the moment so nothing new is arriving, and depending on when this all works its way through our country, I may yet get to my stash, which has some very indulgent yarns in it and is calling to me from the attic with its siren song.

This is not a spring sweater but I finished Yana Lite in beautiful Yakima, a merino/yak blend in fingering weight. I modified the collar a bit but otherwise knit as directed.

It was a joy to knit it in that beautiful yarn, but there is also a worsted-weight version for those with less patience, or less fingering-weight on hand.

I used a new yarn called Boheme to make this pretty tee called Lillet, that has a lace/cable motif at the neck, and I repeated parts of it at the cuffs and hem.

We have these pretty colors:

This gem of a sweater is called Elorie, which I made in a warm and cheery color of Creative Linen. The motif on the deep yoke is done with slipped stitches:

Both Lillet or Elorie would work with any sturdy DK or light worsted yarn. Same goes for this tee:

which is my own design. It’s a simple Boxy Tee, with reverse stockinette at the bottom, sleeve cuffs and neck, and regular stockinette for the rest. I used Noro Kumo, a DK-weight blend of rayon/cotton/silk with a smooch of wool to help it keep its shape while being knit at a large gauge. It’s a comfortable over-sized fit, just what I want for hot summer days. I’m experimenting with some other yarns and edges. It will be a free pattern with purchase of yarn to make it! We have these pretty colors, plus a beige and light blue version that arrived after this photo was taken.

If you’re desperate, remember that we can arrange porch pickup with proper social distancing, if you call 610-373-1622 or email me at trish@yarngal.com.

I hope you’re coping well and keeping well. Here’s a fun list of things to do while you’re at home: https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/health-wellness/2020/03/16/coronavirus-quarantine-100-things-do-while-trapped-inside/5054632002/

Miss you!
