Goodbye, dusty old 2019. It’s over between us. We’re moving on, sorry.
Don’t you love the whole concept of a New Year? Whoever thought it up was a genius. A new start, another chance. It’s not just another dreary wintery day. It’s NEW!
One note from way back last year: As you know (probably), every day that we’re open in December, we draw a name from the box of Frequent Buyer Cards that you all turn in during the year, and that person gets a $25 gift certificate from us. Here are this past December’s winners:
Sandy Albert, Janice Bieber, Judy Bohne, Ginny Close, Janis Edwards, Deb Hawk, Vera Kochan, Melissa Korth, Lenore Peloso, Claire Sanacory, Melissa Stanley, Lauren Turgeon. If your name is in italics, you haven’t picked up your gift yet, so stop in, or we’ll be calling you.
So, what I did on my winter vacation was – knit! Well, not every minute, of course, but I really did get some things done. I had a new yarn to try out, called Sea Isle Cotton, a next-to-the-skin-soft blend of wool and cotton. It’s a natural choice for a spring pullover. I made one of my favorite designs of all time, Sunshine Coast by Heidi Kirrmaier.

It looks like nothing on a hanger but is very flattering on a female body, which is what really matters.
I made Brother-in-Law socks, using Opal sock yarn:

And I made mittens for me, using a combination of sturdy wool and an alpaca/wool/angora blend, densely knit for warmth and strength:

The last two projects were knit very tightly, so I’m giving my hands a rest with a lightweight, easy, gauge-doesn’t-matter shawl that I’ll show you later.
The other thing I worked during our break was the Winter class schedule which I hope you’ve all seen by now. It’s a good one, and I can’t wait to get started.
The vacation, as always, did its job: I’m so ready to open up the shop again and see my favorite people on earth!! Jack and Purl are ready, too; they’re so bored with me. I think they’re sizing me up as the main course for dinner, just so they don’t have to watch me sit at the computer for one more minute. Thanks to everyone who generously brought us cookies, libations, dog treats and toys, and other goodies. We love you so much, and feel so lucky to have such wonderful customers and friends. Here’s to a happy, healthy 2020, full of knitting and other beautiful things!!
