Out of My System

My obsession with Felted Tweed has been assuaged, for now. This cozy shawl in 3 colors did the trick.

It was fun and so very relaxing to knit, and it’s soft, warm, a little fuzzy, and just what you want to throw around your neck for a windy day, or keep on your office chair for those computer marathons. I think I said last week, the pattern is a free Ravelry download – what could be better? The only difficult thing is picking the three colors you want to use!

So once I got over all that, I could work on this little cardigan again. This is Rebel, Rebel from Truly Myrtle:

It’s a nice little cardigan, with split cuffs and tiny pockets (okay for a tissue or a key or a dollar bill) (but probably not all three) incorporated into the garter stitch hem. It’s an inexpensive project but you pay for it in time because it’s done with fingering weight yarn, and I used size 2 and 3 needles to get gauge. I used 3 skeins of sock yarn to make it, and if you don’t have 3 skeins alike, you can color block it (check out the projects here.) Or use Tradition Sock like I did; we have lots of nice neutrals and a few fun colors. I’m glad it’s finished!!

The holidays are coming up and I’ll be sending out an email soon with our hours and some other news but one thing I wanted to mention especially to you all is that I’ll be holding a Hat Knitalong Day on Sunday December 1. We’ll be knitting a simple hat for charity, to be given away to homeless people in Reading. I’ll be donating a ball of Encore to anyone who wants to participate, and we’ll have a few snacks and some camaraderie to enjoy while we knit. I know a lot of people will be away or traveling, but if you can’t come on the day, I hope you’ll find time to knit the hat anyway (pattern is free to download). Let me know via email if you’re interested in participating on December 1. Also, feel free to donate any new or lightly used washable hat; you can bring them by the store at any time. We’ll make sure they get to an organization that has a local outreach to the homeless here.

And speaking of the holidays, how adorable is this:

Lenore Peloso is taking our Fair-Isle sweater class and as she was unpacking her beloved Christmas decorations, she noticed that Mrs. Claus seems to be knitting the same sweater in the same colors! So cute!
