Skinny Yarn Week!

Now, let’s not speculate on what I was thinking when I scheduled approximately 7 tons of fingering-weight yarn all to come in the same week; let’s just glory in fact that we have so much beautiful yarn! I just want to wind a skein of each and knit it until I know what it’s going to look like and then go on to the next. Wouldn’t that be too much fun?

Of course, I can’t be that impractical; I am a Serious Businesswoman. But take a look at all this color and tell me you aren’t tempted.

First, we got in a shipment of Opal’s Beautiful World collection. Opal is made in Germany and is a sturdy sock yarn with fun stripes and patterns:

This is the yarn I use for my BIL’s crazy socks – he loves wearing wild socks in his buttoned-down CPA office and it’s really fun for me to see how the colors play out.

Foot Loose is a new hand-dyed yarn, also perfectly fine for socks with its combo of wool and nylon, but also a nice choice for shawls and cowls. The interesting dye technique and unusual color choices make me want to grab a skein and make something right away to see what happens:

One of my favorite fingering yarns is Alegria from Manos. It’s a staple in the shop because of its softness combined with strength, and always the color, color, color. We received beautiful semi-solids:

and even more beautiful multi-colors

all hand-dyed in Uruguay at Manos’ women’s cooperative, which supports many families and schools. The two at the bottom left are new this season (my fingers are itching) and the others are tried-and-true favorites.

A sampling of Frabjous Fibers’ new yarn, called Mary Ann Sock, also arrived this week. it’s really just lovely and soft and perfectly applicable to any fingering-weight project:

And we also got a great supply of Tradition Sock, a nice 50-50 wool/acrylic blend that is very well priced and works well for socks, sweaters, and as a solid-colored foil for any hand-dye. Sorry, I didn’t think to take a photo.

But here’s a good look at how Karen’s sample for her Rainier class is coming along:

So gorgeous! If you’ve been on the fence about the class, it’s time to make your move because it’s filling up. I’m going to be custom-ordering yarn for the class by the end of this month, so come in to check out the available range.

That’s it for this week. This Saturday (the 21st already, for Pete’s sake!) is Fall Fest on the Avenue. The store will only be open till 1 p.m. but classes will be held as scheduled. Allow yourself plenty of time to find parking!
