Summer Knitting

Even though it’s a rather dull time of year for yarn stores, it can also be a lot of fun for yarn store owners! Sales reps are coming around with the new yarns and colors for the next season, and I’ve seen some beauties already. It’s a lot of inspiration, and it’s tough to stay focused on warm weather knits. I’m trying, though, and working on a Purl Code sweater by Isabell Kraemer:

in Ella Rae’s Eco Organic Cotton. Look at these sherbet-y colors:

I’m using that icy yellow and using Isabell’s translation of Morse Code into knits and purls to repeat the first letters of the names of all the beloved Cocker Spaniels I’ve had in my life. It’s kind of fun and not as taxing as actually spelling out their names. The yarn is very wonderful to knit with for a 100% cotton, soft and cooperative, very reminiscent of Debbie Bliss’s Eco-baby Cotton. This is how mine looks so far:

Underneath all the purl bumps, it’s just a simple top-down raglan, nicely laid out as are most of Isabell’s designs, a blank canvas for anything you want to express.

I also finished a very summer-y shawl called Greenlight

in Ito’s Washi, a blend of paper and viscose that retains a linen-like touch, very crisp and cool for hot weather. This shawl caught my attention because of the geometric use of colors. I happened to have these colors in stock, so, serendipity!

The pattern is fairly simple and well laid out, but it’s a bit exacting to knit because of the fine gauge and the nature of the yarn. I do love the way it turned out!

One more lovely thing to show you, that Karen just finished, although a photo (especially my photo) can’t capture how beautiful this shawl is:

Come see it in person. This will be a class in the fall, for sure!
