We finally received yarn last week for both our sweater classes that are just starting! Talk about last minute! Luckily almost everyone did swatches and decided sizing and so on early, so we could hit the ground running. Also, for our Cranberry Gose class, we didn’t get all the colors we wanted so a few people had to change colors. They were lovely about it, and I’m very grateful.
But, we’re off to the races and this weekend Deb’s Clouds in My Coffee class kicks off, so the season is finally starting. We might actually get some fall weather soon, and hooray for that.
So, we have lots of people knitting sweaters, but there are definitely those of us who think ahead enough to be interested in some small projects: potential gifts, little warm things that you (or somebody else) will need this winter, something to teach you a new technique or two and expand your knitting horizons. We have a couple small project classes that still have one or two spots. For newer knitters, these simple mitts in early November:

and for more advanced knitters, this great Fair-Isle hat:

I’ve been looking at my Ravelry favorites to see what might be nice to knit this fall. I like making fingerless mitts and think they make nice presents for men or women. Here are a few that I favorited:
I love these mittens, too.
More of my faves next week, but I also want to mention that West Reading is having an event called Warm West Reading on (I’m pretty sure) November 3 that will give away hats, scarves, and mittens to the needy. They’ll supposedly be tied to the trees along Penn Avenue. I would love to see a bunch of donations from our knitters decorating the area outside the store. So, for anyone who might be interested in giving a bit of your valuable knitting time to helping someone in need (as I know many of you do anyway), I’m arranging two sessions that will start after the store closes (say, around 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.) on Saturday, October 13 and October 27 (can’t do the 20th, sorry) to get together and knit or crochet a simple hat or a chunky scarf. You can furnish your own yarn, or I’ll be willing to donate a ball of Encore Chunky to the cause. We’ll have a simple pattern for you to use. Please let me know if you would be interested, and I’ll be sending out more info in an email. Oh, and we’ll take donations of purchased and/or gently-used (and washable!!) items as well.
