The girls at the shop gave me the weekend off, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was supposed to visit my sister but Purl had an iffy stomach and would not have made a good guest, so we stayed home. I knit, cleaned a little, designed a whole sweater (which may or may not ever see the light of day, but it’s good for my brain and my disposition to do something creative just because.) I continued to dither over which sweater to make from the new Brooklyn Tweed collection. I love many of them but am almost settled on this one:
Something I would wear and that would be a challenge to make. However, I have to admit that all I want to do right now is knit miles and miles of stockinette stitch. And that’s what I’ve been doing!
Here is Churchmouse’s Simple Straight Skirt,
which I knit from Debbie Bliss’s new tweed called Milano, a perfect yarn for this skirt. It’s sturdy, has texture and a little synthetic in it to hold its shape, and every shade will go with several different colors. This one looks great with my ancient and giant Montera cabled sweater (did you know that Montera is now in our sale closet??) plus the Churchmouse Colorplay Scarf.
I promise, you’ll see this on me some cold winter day this year!
Another easy piece is this Striped Pullover from Vogue Knitting’s new book Very Easy Sweaters.
I modified their design a little to use slightly lighter yarns. I used Giselle from Classic Elite for the fuzzy and Silky Wool from Elsebeth Lavold for the smooth stripes. It’s definitely on-trend: tunic-length, stripes, long sleeves, and a comfortable style for most circumstances. With black pants and top (and some jewelry – I didn’t have any with), it dresses up nicely:
But I will no doubt wear it with a turtleneck and jeans.
There, I’ve shown you my backlog of finished projects! The only other thing I’ve accomplished is making a new sweater for Purl. Karen Walter picked out the color of Maxima, and I think Purl will look great in it. This shows you how she has grown since she first came to us:
Her first sweater, in hot pink, had to be scaled down from the XXS size on the pattern. She grew out of it in about 3 weeks. The purple, which she wore most of last winter, was the XXS done to gauge. The new one is a size S – she’s not X-rated anymore!
Miscellaneous stuff:
Fifteen colors of Madelinetosh Merino Light are coming on Wednesday. Fire up your Ravelry favorites!
