Advanced Beginner – Knitting

Advanced Beginner: You know the long-tail or knitted cast-on, knitting, purling, binding off. You have been introduced to circular knitting.

SEAGLASS HAT

This adorable hat is a great intro to stranded knitting, in which 2 colors are used in every row. The knitting is simple, which allows you to focus on the technique and the interplay of colors. It’s a beautiful way to use up scraps of fingering-weight yarn, so gather all those leftovers from socks and shawls. The pattern comes in a wide variety of sizes, and the color possibilities are endless.

Two Saturdays, January 18 & February 1 | 1:00 – 3:00 pm | $50

Taught by Karen Walter

CIRCULAR KNITTING USING THE “MAGIC LOOP”

Intermediate – Knitting

Intermediate: You are proficient in all the Advanced Beginner skills, plus knitting in the round and basic finishing techniques.  You should have completed several successful projects using these techniques.

FAIR-ISLE VEST

Consolidate and extend your stranded-knitting skills when you make this beautiful vest. The traditional patterns that make this lovely piece so special can be subtle, like the gradient effect of Karen’s model below, or as colorful as you like. The colorwork is complete by the time you reach the armholes, so the shaping is straightforward, and you’ll get practice in picking up stitches. Karen has some guidance for you when casting on a large number of stitches to join in the round, so you will be able to complete the ribbing at home prior to the first class.

Six Saturdays, February 15 & 22, March 8, 15, 22 & 29 | All classes start at 1:00 pm | $90

Taught by Karen Walter

GRID GAMBIT COWL

Experiment with color in an all-over mosaic stitch pattern. Mosaic patterns allow the knitter to work complex geometric patterns while only using one color at a time. This cowl is worked flat, shaped with increases and decreases and seamed to finish. Make a lovely warm version or a lightweight accent for your casual summer outings.

Three Saturdays, March 8, 15 & April 12 | 10:00 am – 12 Noon | $65

Taught by Deb Cech

SOCK CLUB IS BACK!

Calling all sock fanatics! Join us…whether you’re ready to learn to knit socks or you’ve got the
urge to make your 100th pair! This season’s theme is “Crazy for Color” and we’ll be exploring
different types of heels. We’re showing one project here, but there will be three different socks total in the club series. Sign up for the series and receive a $10 discount for each session ($165 for all three!)

Sock 1 – Slip Stripe Shorties: (3 sessions)

These socks combine mosaic stitches with plain stockinette rounds to make fun textured
stripes. We will be using the magic loop technique, but DPN knitters are welcomed too. This
pattern uses a basic heel flap and gusset construction so they are ideal for first time sock
knitters.

Three Tuesdays, April 1, 8 & 15 | 6:00 – 8:00 pm | $65

Taught by Deb Cech

Experienced Level – Knitting

Experienced – All intermediate plus you have made several successful garments, are comfortable with finishing methods, and are interested in design, fit, and refined techniques.

“MERMAID” SWEATER

I had fun knitting this top-down, one-piece sweater! The stitch patterns change throughout, so there is rarely a minute to get bored. All that stitchwork comes alive using this lovely merino superwash, and it drapes quite nicely, so that all the texture doesn’t overwhelm you. The slip-stitch charts are easy to follow, and it’s interesting to see the overall motif of scales and waves develop. I simplified the sleeves a bit (because enough is enough.)

Seven Sundays, January 19 – March 2 | 2:00 – 4:00 pm | $105

Taught by Trish McKinney
