A quick note this morning to show you Newsom finished up.

It started out here:

as you may remember, and here it is completed:

A neat little cardigan in a lovely tweed that would look fine as a work piece or  worn casually with jeans.  I love Debbie Bliss’s Fine Donegal yarn.  Beautiful colors, a versatile weight, sturdy but not rustic or crunchy.  I could knit and wear many many pieces with this yarn (and you’ll be able to verify how I feel about it when we get our fall shipment)!

Newsom is interesting to knit, too.  It starts with just a few stitches and grows in three directions through the magic of mitering.  When the piece measures the desired width across the back, the sleeves are knit in the round to the armholes, the whole thing is joined together and the upper back, shoulders, and fronts are knit.  I wanted to add some length (I know, I know, I’m short, but not in the waist, only the legs, more’s the pity) so before finishing the front bands, I picked up across the bottom and did 2 inches of garter stitch.  I thought it might ruin the mitered effect at the back, but here is how it looks:

I’m quite pleased!

We’re getting lots of questions about classes for fall.  I swear that things are starting to come together, but it will be another couple of weeks before the schedule is ready.  I’m afraid that I’m the hold-up, but I’ll get there!

Now I must go and distract myself from worrying about Jack, who is getting his teeth cleaned and a few lumps and bumps removed today.  Purl is napping by the front door, which she never does, but Jack left through that door and I guess she doesn’t want to miss him when he comes back.  Things just aren’t right without our Jackson!
