Knitters Know…

…a lot of important things, but one thing that we all know is that knitting doesn’t happen instantly.  It’s July, which means that September and autumn are only a few weeks away.  That we are all aware of that is apparent from the inquiries I’ve been getting about new fall yarns.  What’s coming in and when?  What am I knitting for fall?  What’s the latest big trend for knitting?  I’m even getting questions about fall classes already!

[As an aside, let me insert a reminder that our Sea Salt sweater class still has a couple of spaces open!  This pullover has a fun and interesting one-piece construction and is the perfect weight to take you well into fall.  We have a really excellent choice of yarns for it in stock and ready to knit.  The design is an adventure for the advanced beginner, and interesting for the more experienced knitter as well.  Class starts this weekend!]

I’ve been thinking about fall, too, and the changes that will be taking place.  Janet wants more free time and won’t be teaching this fall, Donna has another job now and has cut back on the time she spends with us, so our fall class schedule will be different and possibly reduced from past years.  On the plus side, Karen has a bit more free time as her daughter grows up, and now that I have Sundays free, I can teach some classes, too.

And of course I’ve been thinking about our fall line-up of yarns and models.  I talked last week about Manos del Uruguay’s Maxima, and guess what turned up this week?

This is what Maxima looks like when we receive it.  Big bundles of 10 skeins each.  I had a wonderful time playing with the colors.  Here is a stack of earth tones:

and here I gathered blues and greens:

Ack!  How to decide what to make and which color to use?  Check last week’s post and help me!  And while I decide on a sweater to make in one of the semi-solids, I’ve taken home two skeins of this new colorway:

called Fawn, to see what kind of accessory it would like to be.  Any thoughts?

I got a lot of knitting done over my 4-day weekend.  A sweater is finished and blocking, another started on an impulse (!! I told myself it would be a quickie and I hope I’m right!) so I hope to have both to show you next week.  I hope you had a wonderful 4th!
